The Esther Griffin White Online Exhibit is the product of a grant-funded Ford/Knight Project. Ford/Knight Projects are designed to be research oriented and highly collaborative efforts between faculty and students. There were two major components to this project. First, students conducted historical research into the life and times of Esther Griffin White, in order to place her life into historical context. Then the students planned and implemented a curated online exhibit. The students worked together to develop standards for metadata, presentation, and access for the materials. Each student contributed a portion of the curated exhibit that incorporates their individual research and accompanying digitized documents. After finishing this project, the participants possess a strong understanding of the current best practices for digitization projects and the ability to understand and evaluate new methods of digitization in the future.

This collection was powered by Omeka, a free and open-source platform for web-publishing that provides people and organizations with powerful but easy-to-use tools for creating online exhibits.
